Varadkar now 1/9 to be new Fine Gael Leader
11/8 from 2/1 to become Taoiseach as Micheál Martin is eased to 4/6
Politics certainly is a strange world and in a matter of 24 hours, major changes can happen.
On Thursday morning BoyleSports reported support for Simon Coveney to be the next Fine Gael leader however overnight the pendulum has swung the other way seeing a massive gamble emerge on Leo Varadkar.
Varadkar was the 8/15 favourite to succeed Enda Kenny on Thursday but following hoards of support, the Dubin native is now red hot at 1/9 to land the coveted job.
Simon Coveney has drifted back out to 5/1 following the plunge on Leo Varadkar.
Varadkar has also seen his price collapse into 11/8 from 2/1 to be next Taoiseach with Micheál Martin remaining the favourite at 4/6 whilst Simon Coveney has drifted out to 7/1 from 3/1.
Liam Glynn, BoyleSports spokesperson said “It now looks more than likely that Leo Varadkar will succeed Enda Kenny as leader of Fine Gael after we have been bombarded with support for the Dublin native over the past 24 hours.”
He added “Varadkar can’t be ruled out of the Next Taoiseach race either and having been priced at 2/1 on Thursday, he is now 11/8 to be the leader of our country. However it’s politics and anything can happen but at present we can firmly say that there is a serious gamble behind Leo Varadkar over the past 24 hours and our traders are expecting his current price to shorten even further.”
