Pope Francis 15/8 To Kiss The Ground When He Lands On Irish Soil

February 13, 2018, 17:20

4/1 The Pope Will Visit Northern Ireland

Pope Francis will visit Ireland this coming August for World Meeting of Families in what will be the first visit from a pope since Pope John Paul II in 1979.

Pope John Paul II famously kissed the ground at Dublin airport when he landed on Irish soil and Pope Francis is 15/8 to mirror this as a tribute.

When Pope John Paul II last visited he was unable to make the trip to visit St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh due to tensions in the North and it is 12/1 that Pope Francis will make the trip during his visit.

A lot has changed in Ireland and Northern Ireland since our first papal visit and it is 4/1 that Pope Francis will fit in a visit to Northern Ireland, something Pope John Paul II was unable to do 39 years ago.

Aoife Heffron, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented “Pope Francis will be gracing Irish soil in August and although his plans look already set we suspect he may want to finish Pope John Paul II’s trip which included a failed trip to St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh.”

She added “At 12/1 the 81-year-old may not make the exact trip to St Patrick’s Cathedral, but at 4/1 a visit to Northern Ireland could be on the cards.”
