Celtic Enter Europa League Betting At 40/1
Ateltico Now Favourites To Land Europa Honours
Celtic have been made 40/1 shots for the Europa League after they secured their place in Monday’s draw despite a home defeat against Anderlecht.
Brendan Rodgers’ side went down to a 1-0 defeat as a result of Jozo Simunovic’s own goal in Glasgow, but their 3-0 victory in Brussels on matchday two meant they finished above Anderlecht in third place in the group behind Paris St Germain and Bayern Munich.
Atletico Madrid (5/1) have leapfrogged Group D winners Arsenal (6/1) as favourites to win the Europa League after their Champions League elimination, whilst AC Milan are third favourites at 9/1 to lift the trophy in Lyon after topping Group H.
Lawrence Lyons, Spokesman for BoyleSports commented “Celtic fans will have all eyes on Monday’s draw for the Europa League knockout stages and they may get more joy against weaker opposition now they’ve dropped out of the Champions League.”
He added: “Who can forget Celtic’s run to the final in 2003 when they took Jose Mourinho’s Porto all the way to extra time in the final in Seville! At 40/1 the odds are stacked against them, but if Celtic can translate domestic form to the continent they could be a dark horse in the betting, each way at the very least.”
