County Appeal To Create Food Vision For Mayo

Business August 12, 2013, 12:47

Food enthusiasts near and far, your county needs you!

Mayo’s vision of beingIreland’s premier food county will take shape in a very special event that opens this year’s Westport Food Festival. And the organisers want Mayo’s food businesses, producers, providers and food enthusiasts to come and take part in what will be the single biggest group collaboration to create a food vision for Mayo.

“Articulating a Food Vision for Mayo” is the drive behind the Recipes for Success business event which will take place on Friday 6th September at Hotel Westport.  The initiative is being funded by Mayo County Enterprise Board in collaboration with the Westport Food Festival and will be facilitated by renowned food expert and writer John McKenna. Recipes for Success, organisers say, will create a legacy for the festival that will benefit the county in years to come.

Food professionals and enthusiasts alike are being called on to attend the event which kicks off with a welcome and open forum followed by workshops facilitated by John McKenna and Mayo CEB. The findings, feedback and ideas will be used to create a strategic plan for implementation. “This will be a positive, upbeat event where everyone is challenged, everyone’s opinions matter and no one is allowed to say “Somebody should” “, commented John Magee, Micro Enterprise Officer, Mayo CEB.

A shared lunch format – The Pot Luck Lunch - will see the various attendees bring food for a picnic lunch to be shared by the group so that attendees can trial and taste the products of local producers, food businesses and chefs. “This is a novel approach and will allow local foods to receive great word of mouth and publicity amongst food enthusiasts, food bloggers and food media who will be there on the day as well as allowing guests to mingle and network in a relaxed environment”, said John McKenna.
