‘Big Ideas’ – Innovation Showcase 2015

Innovation Showcase 2015 takes place on the 8th of December 2015 at the Convention Centre, Dublin. The event is described as “the place to discover the supports to grow your business”. This is the second year of the event.

As part of the event 12 spin-out companies from research will present their “Big Ideas”, which will illustrate the high quality of research currently happening in Ireland’s Higher Education Institutions. Each of the Promoters of new start-ups will take to the centre stage where they will make a brief pitch outlining their technology solutions and business propositions. Listed below are just three of the speakers appearing on the day.

Patricia Scanlon – CEO, Soapbox Labs

Patricia’s technology solution is a smart speech-recognition software that enables reading assessments for children. This involves the recording of a child reading aloud to tailor a reading lesson specifically for their individual needs.

Kieran Normoyle – Managing Director, Ocean Survivor

Kieran Normoyle from Limerick based start-up Ocean Survivor will showcase his hypothermia-fighting equipment at the Innovation Showcase 2015. This technology aids the prevention of hypothermia for divers by relocating heat to the bodies vital organs.

Dr. Conor Harkin – Founder, ProVerum Medical 

BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) affects up to 60% of all men over the age of 50. In the US and Europe up to 1.2 million surgeries are performed every year and must be done under general aesthetic with a couple of days stay in hospital. ProVerum Medical’s device can be inserted under local anesthetic with a quick procedure, Dr. Conor Harkin will showcase this device at Innovation Showcase 2015.
