Our featured journalist this week is Eithne Kelly, the producer of the Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk 106-108. Eithne began work with the station in 2013. She was awarded the prestigious role of producer for the all new Pat Kenny Show, when the presenter moved from RTÉ Radio 1 to Newstalk, in June of that year. She plays a vital role in the team, securing interviews and helping to put together a unique, interesting and jam packed show weekly.
Eithne grabbed the attention of the national media in 2012 when she secured the first interview in the country with the bankrupt ex-billionaire Sean Quinn. Prior to this she had also nabbed an exclusive interview with Fr Kevin Reynolds, the priest who was libelled by RTE’s PrimeTime in 2011.
When Pat Kenny moved to Newstalk to begin a new chapter in his career, following 41 years with RTÉ, Eithne was nabbed up and landed the position as producer on the show.
In the early years of her career she did some work with both the Athlone Voice and Midlands Radio 3 before moving to ShannonsideFM. She began work at ShannonsideFM in 2006 as a producer and remained there for almost seven years. She produced the Joe Finnegan Show for the station.
Eithne is a native of Athlone. She studied at NUI Galway and NUI Maynooth, where she went on to achieve a postgraduate diploma in TV and radio production.
You can follow Eithne on Twitter @EKellyRadio or listen to her work on the Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk, from 10:00 to 12:30 weekdays.
